This was a time of extreme peace, in the Artist life, when he was staying with the family in Wisconsin. The tranquility shows within the work of the Artist at this juncture. Clean, calculated, colorful, and whimsical, this watercolor painting is well executed and beautiful. Life back in the Midwest was tranquil and clearly wonderful. Landscapes in watercolor must be well planned, because the medium is less forgiving, and one has to commit to the design and composition moves one makes from the conception. Oil painting, on the other hand, can be more easily corrected. This watercolor painting is one of the Artist most favorites. The clean watercolor includes, wonderful memories, has actual foreshadowing in its subject matter (Chapel), and is very calm and peaceful. Therefore, the art was actually reflective of the "state of mind" of the Artist, at that time.
